Runcorn and Widnes Weekly News review:

MUSIC lovers from across the borough came together on Saturday to enjoy a night of rocking and rolling at Halton’s very own music festival. Halton Rocks 2012 took place at the Queen’s Hall Studio on Lacey Street, Widnes. The event attracted a massive turnout, and the audience’s size and energy spurred on the acts on stage.

Pop acoustic duo LAURA&CLAIRE opened up the show, followed by ANNIE who delivered an assured and well-received performance. SONTOTHERESCUE played a passionate set of mostly original compositions, also giving a nostalgic nod to the Halton music scene of the 90s by performing a cover song of his older brother’s former band The Blind Lemons. The legendary GREG OLDFIELD was up next, proving hugely popular judging by the audience’s reception to his performance. GOGMAGOG kicked off the electric sets, followed by a run-through of punky new songs by THE NATIVE NARCOTICSFIDEL AFRO showed why they are so heavily tipped for success with a lively set of original rock songs. The evening was rounded off by Widnes favourites KESSLER.

The event was held to benefit the Heswall Disabled Children’s Holiday Fund and more than £730 was raised on the night. There is still money from sponsors still to be collected, and it is estimated the total will rise to around £3,000. A spokesman said: “We would like to thank everyone for their support in making the night a success and helping the cause with their involvement.”
